Yes, i've been taking piano lessons for 6 months and so far have only been using a cheap 64-key or something keyboard. now that i am sure about continuing to learn piano, i am getting a weighted* 88-key keyboard. *(weighted means you can express dynamics. in other words, how hard you press the keys influences volume intensity). Unfortunately, the choice of instrument has a large impact on how enjoyable and rewarding the process of learning the piano is. try to set aside the largest budget possible. a keyboard isn't like a computer or an xbox that's going to be obsolete in 2-5 years.. Started lessons in july just 30 minutes every friday with a piano teacher and practicing in the book every day at home on a keyboard. i have just now successfully made it through this book and it is the most important resource i have that helped me get to where i am now..

Hello. i've had a lot of free time lately. a friend has a midi keyboard so i thought maybe i should try to learn to play the piano. how can i max the experience? which software mimics the piano for a midi keyboard and what program/site should i use to start learning a bit to see if i like it?. A standard piano keyboard has 88 keys and so if you want to replicate the real thing as closely as possible, then an 88 key midi keyboard should be what you look for. that said, you can still learn pretty well on a 61 key keyboard and you will save yourself a little space and a little money too..
